St Aloysius ITI organizes ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ programme was held on October 2 which was organised as a joint initiative by St Aloysius ITI, Lions Club Mangaluru, and Leo Club Mangaluru St Aloysius ITI.

President of Lions Club – Lion Jayaraj Prakash mjf was the president of the programme. Fr John D’Souza SJ, director, St Aloysius ITI, Mangaluru was the chief guest for the programme. Guests of honour for the programme were Roshan D’Souza, principal; Alwyn Menezes vice-principal; Noel Lobo training officer.

Leo Club president Leo Benjamin Ankith Vegas; secretary of Lions Club Lion Ravishankar Rai mjf and Leo Club secretary Leo Jaison Paul; treasurer of Lions Club Lion Narayan Kotian mjf and Leo Club treasurer Leo Vishal D’Souza; Leo advisor of Leo Club St Aloysius ITI Lion Wilson N; ex-president of Lions Club Lion Sheena Poojary mjf; Lion Govardhan Shetty mjf; second vice president of Lions Club Lion Hema Rao mjf; convener of the programme Ashwin D’Souza; Leo members, staff and students were present.

The programme commenced with a prayer.

Leo vice-president Leo Akvil, extended a cordial welcome to the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by offering flowers to Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait as a part of respect.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, “Swachh Hi Seva” means cleanliness is service, this initiative aims to involve every citizen of the country in contributing towards a cleaner and healthier India through community participation.

Cleanliness drive creates awareness about sanitation and hygiene. The campaign calls on every Indian to participate in activities that make public spaces cleaner. Swachh Hi Seva reminds us that keeping our environment clean is the responsibility of each one of us. Millions of people across India participate in cleaning public spaces like parks, riversides, schools, and neighbourhoods. These drives help to build a culture of cleanliness. The campaign encourages proper waste segregation at the source, recycling, and reducing the use of plastic. The initiative has played a key role in accelerating the construction of toilets in rural areas.

In his presidential address Lion Jayaraj Prakash mjf said, “A clean environment reduces the risk of diseases, improves sanitation, and enhances the aesthetics of our surroundings. It reflects the culture and values of a society. Let’s remember that even small actions contribute to a big change. We can all contribute to building a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous India.”

Leo Vishal D’Souza, Leo Club treasurer compered the programme.

“Swachhata Hi Seva” pledge led by Leo Jaison Paul, Leo Club secretary was recited by the gathering present for the programme as an initiative for a cleaner, greener, and garbage-free India.

Leo club members, students and staff members cleaned the street areas from PVS Circle to Bunts Hostel Circle and Court Road.
