Mangaluru, May 23: A seminar on ‘Education for transformation’ was organised on May 22 for the teaching staff of St Aloysius Higher Primary School and St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute at the ITI auditorium ‘Samipya’.
Resource person of the seminar was Fr John Kennedy SJ from Madhurai, Tamilnadu. The seminar commenced with a prayer session conducted by junior training officer Wilson N. Vincent Mendonsa- principal of St Aloysius ITI extended a cordial welcome to the gathering. The seminar was inaugurated by lighting the lamp.
Addressing the gathering Fr Eric Mathias SJ- director of the institutions said, “The core of Jesuit education is all round growth of the students. The development of the child should not be limited to only academics. The physical, emotional and mental development of the child is equally important. Our education system is meant to take care of the child as a whole.”
The seminar had many sessions like legacy of Jesuit Educational System, purpose of education, various aspects of transformation and how to be effective. The resource person said, “There has to be a paradigm shift in our attitude so that we will be able take everything in a positive spirit. We cannot change the events happening around us, but we can definitely choose how we would like to respond to that event. Have passion for life. Classrooms are the places, where the future of our nation is created and teachers shape this future. Teachers touch the life of a child like no one else can. Be the compassionate teachers and form your students to be the agents of social change and enlightened global citizens.”
The seminar was well appreciated by all. Robin Vas- junior training officer proposed the vote of thanks.
