Mangaluru: St Aloysius ITI holds Ayudha Pooja, inaugurates student council

Mangaluru, Oct 5: Ayudha Pooja was celebrated with grandeur in St Aloysius ITI on Saturday, October 5. Student Council for the academic year 2019-20 was also inaugurated during the celebration at St Aloysius ITI Auditorium.

Ayudha Pooja is a part of the Navratri festival, which means ‘Worship of Instruments’. According to Hindu Mythology after slaying of the demon king, the weapons were kept out for worship. This celebration enlightens the importance as well as proper use of tools and equipments we use in our workshop daily. Hence every student was involved in cleaning the premises and decorating their respective workshops.


On this special day, all the workshops as well as the office were beautified with plantain, glazing paper, flowers, mango leaves, balloon decorations. The ceremony began by prayers and blessing of all the workshops (MRAC, COE, MMV WL, PL, MD, C&S, HYUNDAI, EM, EL, COMPUTER LAB) by Fr Vincent Pinto SJ, finance officer, St Aloysius College Autonomous.

The formal programme commenced with a prayer conducted by Wilson N. Roshan D’Souza, principal extended cordial welcome to the dignitaries. The newly elected student council was inaugurated by planting a sapling and watering itby the students along with dignitaries. Later Oath was taken by the student council members. The newly elected student council members are president Denzil Floyd Veigas, vice president Akshatha S, secretary Nithesh, sports secretary Riyon Prithvil D’Souza, and cultural secretary Skanda Prasad. The inaugural function was conducted by AlwynMenezes, vice principal.

Yogesh Kumar B C, police inspector (Anti CorruptionBureue), D K district, Mangaluru was the chief guest of the celebration and the programme was presided over by Rev. Fr Cyril D’Mello SJ, Director of our institution. The other dignitaries on the dais were Fr Vincent Pinto SJ, finance officer, St Aloysius College Autonomous, Noel Lobo, training officer, John D’souza, convenor of the programme.

Chief guest Yogesh Kumar addressing the gathering wished the student council members and also said under the guidance of teachers and elders, use your potential and come up in life. Giving the example of St Kabir for his simplicity, you can achieve anything in life, if we achieve it in a good way. Set a goal in life and achieve it in a right way. Umesh, JTO, EM Trade, delivered a speech on the history and importance of Ayudha Pooja celebration.

On this occasion Sajjad Ahmed (MRAC II) was felicitated by the dignitaries for his achievements in taekwondo or Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art. Recently he had represented Dakshina Kannada South zone in Taekwondo championship which was held in Bangalore under colour belt section (Poonse/Kata) and won gold medal under 54 Kg category. The felicitation programme was conducted by Dorin Snehaprabha, JTO, Sewing Technology.

Fr Vincent Pinto SJ in his speech said, “Importance of education in life is to be employed and having social concern. Education is nil without social concern. Important tool given by Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhiji to the society was non-violence. He inspired the students by giving an example of missile man Dr Abdul Kalam and P V Sindhu, badminton player for their hard work and the goal they had set in their life and achieving it.”

In the presidential address, Fr Cyril D’Mello SJ, Director of the institution addressing said “We are the instruments in the hands of god. We have to worship as well as use the tools for a purpose and also respect the human mankind.” He also wished all the student council members.

The stage programme was followed by a cultural programme. Students of Sewing Technology performed a beautiful dance. John D’souza, convenor of the programme proposed vote of thanks. Rohan Cutinha, student of Welder trade and Lidson Fernandes, student of MMV Ist trade compered the programme.

The programme was concluded by national anthem and sweets were distributed to everyone.08:59:47
